”Private club I’ll never be part off”, oil on canvas, 117 x 91,5 cm
This painting portrays London Royal Academies Academicians rooms where Ingrid painted in her own work on the walls. It’s a private club for members who get approved by the nominations committee, as well need to pay a yearly membership fee of 450 pounds plus joining fees. ’’ It is a club that I will never be part of, it is the room where my work will never hang in… I don’t judge institutions need to earn for their needs and functioning and charitable work… But I only contemplate the impossibility of a dream-reach by a young artist who’s been through ‘mountains’ of art education, works part time to fund time in a studio, is in debt and constantly questions what makes your success as an artist. Is it the right school, right institution, right city or right membership? Or maybe in my case even the right country? How do you find the right audience? Because we all know that an artist is nothing without the spectator, the viewer. That’s where it all makes sense for me. It’s when I see someone stop in front of my work in the exhibition for more than 2 min. I think that is my personal success, but I am not going to lie, I wouldn’t mind hanging my work in the Academicians room too one day…who wouldn’t? ‘’
